Mentally Ill Boy Shot To Death…

Ever wonder why with all of the modern technology, tricks, bells & whistles that we americans have access to, why can’t cops keep from killing people mistakenly?? Or maybe it wasn’t a mistake, the boy did say, “I have a gun”. A mentally ill teen boy was shot up to 20 times by 5 different cops because they thought he had a gun. His weapon turned out to be a hairbrush… His mother called 911 to get “Help” for her mentally ill son, I’m sure this is not the “Help” she expected.

Read the story here.

Of course since this was a black teen in Brooklyn N.Y. there will of course be the usual racial backlash. I pray that those involved don’t get totally caught up in the pending racial onslaught that will surely hit. I pray that someone takes a good hard look a police tactics, and a good hard look at this country’s mental health system and devise a way to make them both work. I personally don’t know if this was a racial crime or not, but what I do know is that a mentally ill child is now dead and did not receive the services that he needed.

Why it took 5 cops and 20 shots to bring him down…I don’t know. Why the emergency crisis people didn’t spend a little extra time waiting in order to help this family…I don’t know. Why cops can’t aim for legs or arms to bring a person down …I don’t know.
But what I do know is that there is a dead boy out there, a broken family out there, and a mother in pain out there…

Wow. I had not heard about that story. But I agree with you — there must have been another way to ‘take him down’ than to shoot him 20 times from 5 different cops.

I went and read the story and this is a hard one to know what is right. On one hand- the boy was mentally ill and had been threatening suicide. On the other hand- the police have to consider their own safty and protect themselves.But- why couldn’t they have used a stun gun or rubber bullets? Especially knowing the boys situation. So, so very sad.

Yes, this is sad…. I have a special needs daughter who has some mental problems not as bad as this boy but still has medicine she takes and I know that Mama has to be broken about this….. You are right there needs to be more understanding of what mental illness is about. Blessings, Grams

How sad. I read the story and felt that had the police waited a little longer, this tragedy could have been avoided. But, we’ll never know. First because the kid is mentally ill and then the police might feel threatened when he refused to back down. But it’s a sad story. And my heart goes out to the family of this boy.

I have not heard of this. But it seems as if there has been a lot of racial stuff popping up in the news in our area lately.I am not sure what is going on. Could Satan be getting just a little antsy?Unity was the last thing Jesus prayed for. Maybe there is headway going on and he is trying to derail it.

This is just so, so sad! I can’t imagine what that poor mother must be going through…. It’s heartbreaking.

As much as you want to try and believe that killings like this were a legitimate use of force by the police department, you know that it’s not and it happens far too often when these officers are supposed to be trained in the use of force of any kind. It’s just so sad and unnecessary.Have a blessed weekend Regina.

What a sad story. This has got to be a story of excessive police force. And on a completely off note… You have been tagged over at my blog.
