Around The Corner, Now What’s Next?

Times are hard for everyone, but worse for some. That was the thought I had while I surfed the Internet this morning. News is so depressing to see, hear and read but you have to stay informed because ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance is just that …ignorant.

We have turned a monumental corner in history by having the first President – Elect who happens to be black. We rounded that corner at full speed ahead! Full of excitement, triumph and hope! Some of us went around that corner and kept right on speeding down the road. Carried by the adrenaline, the excitement, the crowd or just being carried by the ecstasy of the moment! Running blindly just knowing that things will be alright, propelled by the HOPE of CHANGE!

Some of us got around the corner and stopped to survey the land. We looked ahead to see what was down the way. We stopped to calculate what to do next, how to do it, how long it would take on the next leg of the trip and how best to accomplish the next leg of the race. Knowing that the big HOPE was step one, the big CHANGE was step two, and knowing that for step three we have to make it happen because it is an uphill battle.

We have HOPE, we have CHANGE, and now we have to go the next leg of the race. Things are not all automatically better. People are still being laid off, people are still job hunting, people are still trying to make their money stretch, homes are still in foreclosure, people are still without health care, people are still dying.
Yes we rounded the corner but what do we do next? Now we have to make something happen!

When life throws you a curve ball what do you do? Do you lean into the pitch hoping that the ball will hit you and you can walk ahead one base(Player A)?
Or do you plant your feet and swing and try to knock that sucker out of the park(Player B)?

The difference is Player A is HOPING that he will get moved along to the next phase and someone will come along behind him and send him forward BUT Player B is PLANNING to not only get home but PLANNING to send everyone else home also and score the victory!

Now that we have rounded the corner what will you do next? Are you Player A or Player B?

You definitely need a plan. But also, I think the next leg will be a need for patience. Hope, change, a plan, and then patience.

Rev I agree. Unfortunately there are huge numbers of people who for some reason thought it would be an instant, quick fix.

Patience is certainly important but so is accountability. We are just as accountable – if not moreso – as the “change” that began earlier this month.

Regina, it’s hard to operate in patience when your bottom is falling out. Thanks for the comforting word.

Hi there,I agree with Pastor wholeheartedly. We need a plan…and we need to stop being so needy and passive, waiting for someone ELSE to create the plan, the trail…We really need to own our own destiny…

Some one once said, that if you believe and swing hard, God will make sure you hit the ball. If you then run, He’ll make sure that first, second, and third base and even home plate will fall right in front of you so that you can score. What does all of that mean?God needs us to not wait on one man to bring about the needed changes, but to trust in God, and work in concert with that man to do all that we can do to bring about the needed changes. We need to plan, we need to pray, we need to strategize and we need to take action. Faith without works is dead! You might not get everything that you try for; but you are sure to get nothing if you don’t try.

This is an excellent Regina and there is not much that I can do but agree with virtually everything that you outlined in this post. While the hope or much-needed change is great, we are individually held accountable for what we do and what we don’t do. When bills have to paid and groceries put on the table and clothes on backs, the balls falls in each individuals court to go out there and provide-you have no choice but to do so.In the end part of hoping for chang, is to individually make that move as well.

There is no quick fix . . . not for anything. Unfortunately, we are a society who believes we NEED the quick fix. Everything takes time – and patience. If you don’t make your voice heard or put forth the effort, you can’t complain about the outcome.

I’m not sure the worse is over with the projected layoffs and home foreclosures, but I continue to trust in God’s plan. I hope to be most like the player who mimics David in the Bible. He had a plan through faith to overcome the Philistine giant, Goliath—and did! 1 Samuel 17

I certainly agree with Revvy Rev…patience is the key. Obama will be critiqued and scrutinized like no other president in our country’s history. Why? Because he’s like no other president in our country’s history. Change will come…let’s be proactive, persistent, and patient..
