Remember I told you about the man who decided to go on a rush hour highway shooting spree on Monday. Well allegedly the Dallas police have a suspect… sort of. Brian Smith, a former Utah state trooper who is also a suspect in the Monday robbery at a Texas Kroger pharmacy is the alleged suspect. Brian Smith tried to commit suicide by shooting himself in his car after a stand off with the police and remains on life support at Parkland Memorial Hospital.
The bullets at the locations of the highway shootings and the ones taken from Mr. Smith’s car after he shot himself are being tested and compared. Mr. Smith was in a black sport utility vehicle when he shot himself and not in a tan truck as witnesses say the highway shooter was in.
Brian Smith has a somewhat troubled past,
Mr. Smith quit after 12 years with the Utah Department of Public Safety after an investigation found that he drove under the influence, committed theft and engaged in conduct that would “tend to disrupt, diminish or otherwise jeopardize public trust and fidelity in law enforcement,” according to a Utah DPS investigation.
The incident which resulted in his quitting began when he drove to a liquor store in his patrol car and bought two pints of liquor. He drank one while watching a movie at a theater and later went home, threatening to kill himself when police arrived.
I guess only time will tell if this is indeed Monday’s rush hour highway shooter. Read the entire story HERE.
