Annihilation – Murder, Is Not An Answer To Recession.

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary – Annihilation means to kill, to vanquish, to destroy the substance of, or to reduce to nothing.

The Amplified Bible says in John 10:10, “The thief comes only in order to steal, kill and destroy”.

image4757710gToday according to CNN a man despondent over losing his job shot his wife, his five children (an 8 year old daughter, two 5 year old twin daughters and two 2 year old twin sons) and then killed himself.  Apparently Mr. Lupoe of Wilmington (a Los Angeles suburb) called 911 and also faxed a letter to the television station before completing his tasks of murder-suicide.  Responding officers found all seven bodies inside the home.  Read the story HERE.

However according to CBS News (Read story HERE) the letter that Mr. Lupoe faxed to the television station said that he and his wife were both fired and SHE suggested that they kill themselves and the children.  According to the report Lupoe also wrote in the fax, “Why leave the children to a stranger”.

People, families are being destroyed, no they are being annihilated by the over whelming changes in our society.  Have things gotten so bad that the ONLY alternative is murder?  This is the third mass family killing in California over recessionthe past few months.  Are things in life so bleak that the only way out that you can see is to murder your family and then to kill yourself?  I am having a hard time understanding this philosophy.  I know times are hard, I know that things look bad, I know that some people feel they are at the end of their rope BUT I think this is a bit much.  Times are hard for millions of people.  There are new accounts DAILY of thousands more being laid off.  Yes, people WE ARE IN A RECESSION!! Times are hard so we have to adjust!  Do less eating out, adjust your budget to allow necessities and cut back on the frills, tighten your belts.  Instead of spending money on dinner and a movie, try a picnic in the park!  Stop trying to out spend or be like the Jones’.  Devise a budget and stick with it.  There are things that can be done to get us over the hump, there are resources that we can access.  We wont be living high on the hog, but at least we will still be living!

No, I did not live in this household and No, I do not pretend to even begin to know what was going on in the mind of this man HOWEVER I must say if things were that bad for HIM, he had no right to drag his family into it.  That of course is just my opinion and I am sure there is more than one side to this story that we will never know…but murder… annihilation as an answer is unacceptable.

I agree, Regina…if someone wants to take their own life, then so be it…how dare you take the life of your entire family too!! Children deserve a chance at life even if you decide you don’t want yours!!

Nothing “rational” can justify what this man did. My grandparents lived in a one bedroom home out in the countryside on the island of Cuba and had 10 children. When my mother was 12 she and an older sister worked as a maids to help feed her brothers and sisters. They lived in this one bedroom home with “dirt” floors until my mother and aunt saved up enough money to buy a better home.

My point…no matter how hard things get, there is always another way and killing your children should never ever be the chosen path out of a “tough” situation.

When money, cars and expensive clothing, jewels or the “what will people say thing” stop being the most important thing in our lives, then maybe just maybe we will start to cherish and value human life, the most precious of gifts. Where was faith and God in this man’s heart? Absent?

Logical, rational people do not do this. People who love God and try to honor him do not do this.

    May God forgive him.

That is insane, I dont understand how with all these resources out there you feel the need to take your life after losing a job?

Better yet how is it that you didnt prepare your self for when something like this did happen?

What this really screams is that they had no hope to begin with. They had no promise to hang on to…and so all was lost.
It is really sad….at least the children are with our Father and He has healed their hurts.

Maybe it would be a good time to share our hope a little more boldly. And a time to consider if we really believe that we have a hope within to share.

    Good post girl….something to ponder.

You are so RIGHT. It’s unfortunate that people really believe they have no other recourse than to kill themselves and others. People: this too will pass but it’s what you do in the meanwhile that counts. Gina, you’ve hit the nail on the head.

For the record, I do not agree with the murder-suicide answer to the problems of today. I must however say that in some ways I understand.
If you do not have a relationship with God, and know that He holds your future; and if you have no hope because you do not know that your hope should be in nothing less than Jesus Christ and His righteousness; then, you kill yourself. A person with no hope has no reason to live. They convince themselves, no, they let satan convincce them that there is no other way out. They go into dispare and dispare turns into depression and depression turns into helplessness and helplessness turns into hopelessness.
You must believe in something bigger than yourself, or you will be tempted to kill yourself when yourself is not enough.
How do people make it without the Lord? They don’t!

it is hard to understand, Psalm 23, is one answer but that may assume some form of a normal human being. Some where out there, maybe someone can make sense of it all

They are making a permanent decision for a temporary situation. It’s a tragedy to think that killing yourself and family is a solution to the recession. I’m not trying to brush off the burden of losing your job, and the notion of losing your life’s savings, but having God in situations such as these can be all the difference between life and death. Lord, have mercy!

Maybe he wasn’t used to leaving his family alone, so he decided to take them with him. Still, it was a cowards act.
