In Honor of Black History Month #2 Cab Calloway

In Honor of Black History Month Regina’s Family Seasons would like to introduce…
Mr. Cab Calloway!
Cabell “Cab” Calloway.
Cab Calloway was born December 25, 1907 in Rochester, New York and died November 18, 1994 at the young age of 86 in Hockessin, Delaware. Cab Calloway was a famous Bandleader, Actor, Musician, Entertainer and Jazz Singer. The Cotton Club was “THE” premier jazz club in New York City in the 1920’s & 30’s. This is where Calloway and his band played (Cab’s band was the replacement band when the Duke Ellington Orchestra was touring the country) and got famous!
Cab Calloway soon became in demand and his voice and songs were used in cartoon shorts like Betty Boop cartoons. Calloway’s dance steps were also used the Betty Boop cartoons.
In 1943 he appeared in the Twentieth Century Fox movie “Stormy Weather” which also had appearances by Lena Horne, Ada Brown, Fats Waller, and The Nicholas Brothers. Calloway’s sound and moves crossed boundaries as he made various appearances in the 1980’s & 90’s. Calloway had a breif cameo in the Janet Jackson video for “Alright” in 1990.

Calloway had a career that spanned more than 65 years. Over the years Calloway has had many film and stage appearances including, Porgy & Bess, Stormy Weather, Hello Dolly, The Pajama Game and Bubbling Brown Sugar.

Happy Black History Month!
