Yesterday was the first day in almost two weeks that was not rainy here in Arlington, Texas. The day was beautiful, cool, and the sun could be seen breaking through the clouds to dry up everything. My sister and I and a few of our children decided to get out and drive around enjoying the day. It was an AWESOME idea! I tried to catch the perfect picture of the clouds parting and the sunlight streaming through.
This one looks as if the clouds are actually trying to escape the presence of the sun”SON”light!
You see when it is dark, cloudy and rainy it is too easy to get comfortable in our own dark dreariness. When it is dark and dreary outside we sometimes tend to let that take over our moods, our atmosphere, and even our thoughts. We become overly tired, complacent, lackadaisical, unmotivated, in essence we become mere shells or shadows of ourselves. Hence the blah feeling and the desire to just sleep when the weather is rainy. Some even hate the rain.
Yet, the rain has a purpose.
The rain washes away the old, it washes away the dirt, it washes away the waste.
The rain waters seeds and nourishes crops to bring forth new harvests.
Storms bring destruction and tear down the old but after the storm passes there is room for the building up of the new.
It often happens that in those dark and dreary times God is talking to us, trying to get our attention, trying to tell us something or trying to teach us something. Unfortunately we have receded so far into our own dark thoughts, dark dreariness, into our own self loathing, self deprivation, self deprecating and self destruction that we can not hear, can not learn and can not receive from God. We are so wrapped up in US and not open to HIM. We are blocking our own blessings, we are self destructing! But then, we blame God.
Are you in a dark rainy season? What is the purpose of this season for your life? Should you be planting, harvesting or threshing? Take some time to figure out what season you are in and what the storms mean for your life.
Leviticus 26:3-5 (New International Version)
(3 )If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands, (4) I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees of the field their fruit. (5) Your threshing will continue until grape harvest and the grape harvest will continue until planting, and you will eat all the food you want and live in safety in your land.
We need to get happy when a storm is coming because that means that God is communicating something to us. The coming storm could mean that when the storm is over there will either be a harvest OR the soil will be ready for the planting of new crops. The storm could signify a cleansing or the storm could mean a nourishing. A storm can signify many different things for many different people. You need to find out what the storm means for you and your walk of life.
I think for me the storm means a coming harvest. I sure receive and accept this in Jesus Name!
Deuteronomy 28:11-13 (New International Version)
(11) The LORD will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground—in the land he swore to your forefathers to give you.
(12) The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. (13) The LORD will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the LORD your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom.
