Thank You…

I thought about this today…

Psalm 23
A psalm of David.
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
    he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord

The Father To The Fatherless – Who’s Your Daddy?

Psalm 68:5 A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.

On this Father’s day, I am thinking about spiritual Fathers.  Spiritual Fathers are the men who are reproducing spiritually, men who have matured spiritually and are now nurturing, and training a younger generation of spiritual children.  The men who are taking the time to impart spiritual knowledge, wisdom, and practices on our young men and women (and the not so young!).  Think of the stuff your earthly father is supposed to do just from a spiritual perspective. You know the loving, training, disciplining, encouraging, inspiring, motivating, but all with a spiritual emphasis!

I started thinking of my spiritual father and came to the realization that I did not have a spiritual father.  I found it very interesting that my mother was a single parent mostly (my parents divorced when I was 7).  So after thinking about it for a very long time, I have come to the conclusion that my physical mother was also my spiritual mother and she was STILL a single parent.  Now don’t misunderstand me, I have had spiritual men who had a place in my life, and who imparted wisdom, or knowledge, or some other resource that I needed at the time, but none of them fit the role of a spiritual father.  I had an awesome Pastor years ago who was very instrumental and influential in my spiritual walk.  He was Pastor George Samuel, of Faith Christian Center, in Staten Island, New York.  Pastor Samuel exposed us to awesome people of faith and awesome training.  We received training and spiritual instruction from people like Casey Treat, David Demola, Marilyn Hickey, and other exceptional men and women of faith.  Pastor Samuel gave us training that was unmatched.  He was the closest thing to a spiritual father, but more like a spiritual uncle!
We eventually moved to a new state, but I took all that I had learned with me!  My mother, who took it a step further and nurtured my spiritual yearning, corroborated everything that he gave me.  As I got older, I learned more, I studied more; I gained more knowledge and wisdom in the ways of the Lord.
I have been a member of other churches since FCC, but none of them matched the training I received early in my spiritual life.  The churches since then have complimented my learning, and multiplied it but no one has ever filled the role of a spiritual father.
Even though I have never had a spiritual father, I do not feel that I have lacked in that area.  I never felt like a spiritual orphan, or like I was missing out on something because GOD WAS ALWAYS THERE! I think I have come to the realization of what the verse in Psalm 68:5 means or what it means for me.  God has provided the nurturing and guidance that I needed.  He has become my spiritual Father.  So when that verse says that God is a Father to the Fatherless I feel that HE has me covered spiritually!  Whatever I lacked HE provided! HE is truly the Father to the Fatherless!

Happy Father’s Day!

Mother’s Day 2012

Sorry but I have to play catch – up!  There has been so much going on that I never did post about my Mother’s Day last month.  I had the BEST time with some of the BEST people!
I spent Mother’s Day with a few of my favorite ladies! My youngest and oldest daughter, and my short but beautiful mother, and I all went to Tillman’s Roadhouse near downtown Fort worth for dinner.  Man, if you live within the DFW Texas area you NEED to go by and have a meal at this place. It was FABULOUS! The food was delicious and the ambiance was awesome!  They had a Mother’s Day brunch and let me tell you it was delightful! Having brunch solidified the sickness I already knew I had… I had a plate full of dinner foods, roast, broccoli, green beans, salad, mashed potatoes, but then lying right on top I had to add …BACON! Yes in the midst of the dinner foods I had one breakfast item and that was BACON! I am a baconaholic! So anyway, I digress!!
So I took my  mom out for dinner at Tillman’s Roadhouse and two of my daughter’s came with us.  When we got back home, my middle daughter was there and had surprised me by making dinner (which I could not eat until the next day of course!!). So I spent the day with 3 of my favorite ladies and came home to my other favorite lady and of course my absolute favorite grandson!! And my son bought me flowers! Man I love my family!

(do you see the bacon up there between the mashed potatoes & the broccoli? sad…)

I felt like Icecube… IT WAS A GOOD DAY!!

Memorial Day 2012

For those of you who do not know the origin of Memorial Day, never cared to ask, or just never thought about it, this is for you…

Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his General Order No. 11, and was first observed on 30 May 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. The first state to officially recognize the holiday was New York in 1873. By 1890 it was recognized by all of the northern states. The South refused to acknowledge the day, honoring their dead on separate days until after World War I (when the holiday changed from honoring just those who died fighting in the Civil War to honoring Americans who died fighting in any war). Taken from Memorial Day History.

I have many in my family who served and are no longer here. They did not die in a war, but their sacrifice still counts tremendously! Thank you dad, Samuel Thomas Spencer, and all my uncles, cousins, grandfather, and countless others who served this country! I have been doing a lot of work on my ancestry and there were MANY in my family who served.  Thank you ALL for protecting my FREEDOM!
I want to wish a HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY to ALL those who HAVE SERVEDARE SERVING, and WILL SERVE in any branch of the United States Armed Forces! I love, appreciate, and honor you for your sacrifice and your service.
I know a few people personally who serve in the Military (ACTIVE duty) and I want DAVIDWINSTONCINTAJIA, TYREE, and STEPHANIE to know that I do NOT take what you do for granted! I thank you for keeping our borders, countries, and nation safe! I LOVE YOU!!  I also know some who are no longer active like RACHEL, KEVIN, but who still served selflessly.

Tested, Trialed, And Tempted, But STILL Blessed!

Why is it that some people MAINLY Christians feel that because you claim to be a Christian your life should be all rainbows, ponies, and roses??  Roses stink by the way.. but I digress!  The life of a Christian is anything but easy! We are TESTED, TRIALED, and TEMPTED daily!  If YOU are NOT getting the 3T treatment than maybe you should re-evaluate your standing with God.  That is not to say that God is the one sending the trials your way because that is not always true.  Some test and trials God sends.  Some tests and trials God USES!  Yes, God will ALLOW you to be tested.  In Luke, chapter 22, Jesus tells Simon that Satan has asked to sift him (Simon) like wheat.  In the book of Job God allowed Satan to test, tempt, and attack Job in numerous ways.  Job lost EVERYTHING! He lost his belongings, his house, his land, and Job even lost his friends and his family. His very character was attacked, BUT YET, Job praised God!

When all was said and done, Job STILL in spite of all the TESTS, TRIALS, and TEMPTATIONS, amidst all the destruction, death, and devastation……. JOB STILL PRAISED GOD!
Are you being sifted like wheat? What have YOU lost? What Trials, Tests, or Temptations have you gone through, lived through, going through? Will you STILL praise God?

I have good news for you Job came through his tests, trials, and temptations.  He was tried and found worthy in Gods eyes.  Everything that Job lost, God replacedmultiplied, and magnified in Job’s latter days!
Job 42:12-17 tells of the increase that God blessed Job with.

12 Now the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; for he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys. 13 He also had seven sons and three daughters. 14 And he called the name of the first Jemimah, the name of the second Keziah, and the name of the third Keren-Happuch. 15 In all the land were found no women so beautiful as the daughters of Job; and their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers.16 After this Job lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his children and grandchildren for four generations. 17 So Job died, old and full of days.

So, there you have it. After all the Tests, Trials, and Temptations, GOD BLESSED JOB ABUNDANTLY!

Be blessed beloved, there is a light at the end of that long dark tunnel!
