The Final Frontier – Graduation!

I have been a big fan of the television show Star Trek, since I was a child.  The opening monologue of the television series Star Trek is what I will use to preface this blog post because it is so fitting…

SPACE, THE FINAL FRONTIER. THESE ARE THE VOYAGES OF THE STARSHIP ENTERPRISE. IT’S FIVE YEAR MISSION: TO EXPLORE STRANGE NEW WORLDS. TO SEEK OUT NEW LIFE AND NEW CIVILIZATIONS, TO BOLDLY GO WHERE NO MAN HAS GONE BEFORE.

I find this to be very fitting for a graduation because these young people are on their way to exploring new things, discovering the best of themselves, exploring the world of adulthood, making their impact on the world, doing things in a new, strange and different way… THEIR WAY.  Their adventure starts now! They must now go forth into the world and find what path leads them to greatness.
I have been blessed to watch my youngest go from the beginning of her formal learning in Head start to the milestone of High School Graduate!  I am proud of her accomplishments, I am nostalgic thinking about all of her hills and valleys, I am anticipating what she will do next, and I am in awe of God’s grace.
Calls home from school, standardized tests, class elections, three different high schools, taks tests, pre-Cal, college applications, and finally the walk across that stage.  she worked hard and she deserves this deep sigh of relief! HOWEVER, she also knows that it is time to take another deep breathe and keep moving forward because THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING!!

The Diva’s Big Day, PROM!

Yes, I am still playing catch-up!!  So this is the post about the Diva and her big day…yes the PROM!!!!
It started out okay, nice and easy. We had to buy a dress and we had to get some shoes…That was in April! By the time mid-May rolled around I realized that my sweet, beautiful, some time attitude-y, youngest baby was in fact a full fledged PROMZILLA!!!  I know Promzilla is not a real word, but trust me when I tell you IT HAS REAL MEANING!! I am scared to imagine what her wedding day will be like…….
O…M…G…! The dresses were not right, they did not have enough pop or WOW factor. Of course we had to find a dress shop a million miles from us to make sure that NO ONE ELSE had the same dress! Once we did find a dress, it had to be altered because my baby is vertically challenged but very well endowed (which also lead to issues finding under-dress foundation). That dress was altered THREE TIMES. Well hen it had to be cleaned of course. The shoes had to be mega-FIERCE!  And they had to be shoes that no one else had, we went to a Mexican mall (yea, I know what you are thinking, I also did not know there were Mexican malls, but we found one!).  This Mexican mall had about 20 shoe stores, PRAISE GOD she found what she wanted in store number three! Can I just say that the Mexican shoe game is tight!! So, anyway, There had to be an after prom outfit. Lord, help him but the boyfriend did not get the color suit she wanted, there was a make-up tryout day and we had to try three different types of eye.  Manicure, pedicure, hair, a fight over weave versus no weave, prom jewelry… and the list goes on and on and on!
HOWEVER….
In the end of it all the DIVA was BEAUTIFUL!  She was happy with the outcome. The boyfriend’s clothes turned out to be a perfect match, and all was well with the world!!!!!  I have a couple hundred pictures but I will only post a few….heeheehee!

The End Is Near, The PROM Cometh!

One week and counting!
Next weekend is the prom for my little Diva.  We have the $65.00 ticket (Yes, you read it correctly….$65.00, SIXTY FIVE DOLLARS!).  We have the prom dress!  With the perfect little bag to match!  We have the after Prom “alternate” party dress, because … you know….  She cannot wear the same dress all night.  ***rolls eyes*** We have the prom shoes!  We have gone to have this dress altered …TWICE, no I’m sorry make that THREE times!  The dress is now at the cleaners to make sure it is wrinkle free for the big day!
It is down to the wire now.  Lastly, we have to solidify manicure, pedicure, and hair.  We have the make-up woman on standby!  This has been an exhilarating (for her) experience, and a draining (for me) experience, and frankly, I will be glad when it is overHOWEVER, the week after prom is graduation!  I am excited for her to be done with high school and heading for her next step.  I know that for many people the prom is a major milestone in life, but man the madness is out of control.  Lord have mercy, you need the right shoes, clothes, hair, accessories, and God forbid someone buys the same dress as you, then it’s going to be like Stephen King’s Carrie!  The level of preparation that goes into prom is madness!  I do not see why all the drama, but knowing what a DIVA my baby is I just have to roll with it!  I will of course post pictures of the big day!  I would think the prom should be about a last party and chance to hang out with friends, many of which will be going on to college, trade school, the military or whatever.  It should NOT be about the perfect look!  Nevertheless, whatever, it is what it is!
I am glad that the high school days are just about over, because frankly the educational system blows!  I totally applaud home schoolers!  She has been in 3 high schools.  1 in Rochester, New York, 1 in Arlington, Texas, and 1 in Fort Worth, Texas.  Let me tell you, I am more than ecstatic to be done with the public school system!
In the meantime, I am down to the last two classes for my degree (Yaaayyy!  Go Me!).  I am tired of school all the way across the board…
Stay tuned!  Next week is THE PROM!!!!!!!!

Pray My Strength Saints…..

Ball Of Confusion ….

I feel like a Ball Of Confusion!!  Hmmmm, I am wondering what is this evil plot my daughter is hatching in that evil brain of hers.  If she is not hatching an evil plan than sadly I must concede that the alien child of mine has returned to replace my birth child.  I blogged about the time aliens stole my baby back in March.  You can read that post HERE.
So you must be wondering why I am CONVINCED that the alien child has returned…  Well last night I had a paper due for school.  By the tine I finished this 1700 word paper I was tired and hungry so I popped a pizza in the oven for the Diva and I.  After I ate I went to my room where I was rudely reminded that I had washed my linens earlier in the day and had not put new ones on my bed.  **DEEP SIGH**  So I put clean linens and blanket on my bed, tied down this hair of mine, read my bible chapters, and fell into the bed planning to clean the kitchen in the morning.  I heard HER in the kitchen but it was 1 am and I was tired so I fell out.

I heard her slam the door as she left for school this morning, so I got up showered and headed for the kitchen to wash last night’s dishes.  You already KNOW what I found! Yes, the alien had come and replaced my Diva and cleaned the dishes!  Not only the dishes in the sink, but I had a pot soaking on the side of the sink and she cleaned that too!
In my confusion I walked back through the apartment and walked by their bathroom, upon pushing the door open I saw that the bathroom was CLEAN!  Yozza!! If anyone knows the Diva, they know that the bathroom sink is ALWAYS coated in STUFF! Hair products, combs, brushes, curling irons, flat irons, lotions, makeup, and all types of other stuff that I can’t even describe!  So I started thinking…. Hmmm, doing the dishes without me asking, cleaning the bathroom, her room has been clean for almost 2 weeks, she vacuumed the living room on Sunday, and she is making the bed before she leaves in the morning… and the strangest thing of all… SHE MADE SUNDAY DINNER!
So as you can see she is either an ALIEN or …she is planning to kill me… I have no riches to leave behind so the killing is probably out of the question.
I have to watch her more carefully and try to figure out what her and her kind are plotting!  I am not scared, just confused and contemplative.  I am wondering if I should love, accept, and embrace this alien child or should I be yearning for and looking for my birth child?????
WHICH WOULD YOU DO??

To help you think this over I leave you with the Temptations….

Parting Is Not Sweet, Just Sorrow…

***Deep Sigh***
Well, yes, I’ve been in this place before. Some of the feelings are the same but some of the feelings are new. This time instead of one, there is two…

Yes, My TWO beautiful grandchildren are leaving Texas and heading for New York. The little Prince and the Little Princess are taking off and I am sad 😦

My daughter and grandson are supposed to be staying in New York for one year… (we’ll see) and my granddaughter is returning to her mom. My granddaughter has been here since Christmas to spend time with her dad who just returned from a year in Iraq and the rest of us but the time has come for her to go back to her mom.

I was physically in the room when both of these little treasures were born so maybe that is why it is so hard to part from them. Or maybe I just think they should be here with us… yep that’s it! I was never really big on sharing. Selfish right?? Yes! I know but hey I think I have that right.

Anyway my babies fly out in a couple hours. The house will be quiet once again, I’ll be sad once again, I will probably cry once again, but I trust that God will protect them, until I see them again….

Family Skate Night!

For the first day of February it is cold, snowy and icy here in Texas. So I had time to go through some of the thousand pictures that clutter my lap top. I store pictures with EVERY INTENTION of eventually blogging about one thing or another. But you know like I know half of the time those blog posts never get written. By the time I get around to writing a blog post the time has come and gone. For instance no one wants to read a blog post about Christmas in February! Yea, I know I have to get better with that…I’m working on it!
So anyway… the family all went rollerskating recently and here are some shots from that outing!
