Thank You…

I thought about this today…

Psalm 23
A psalm of David.
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
    he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord

The Father To The Fatherless – Who’s Your Daddy?

Psalm 68:5 A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.

On this Father’s day, I am thinking about spiritual Fathers.  Spiritual Fathers are the men who are reproducing spiritually, men who have matured spiritually and are now nurturing, and training a younger generation of spiritual children.  The men who are taking the time to impart spiritual knowledge, wisdom, and practices on our young men and women (and the not so young!).  Think of the stuff your earthly father is supposed to do just from a spiritual perspective. You know the loving, training, disciplining, encouraging, inspiring, motivating, but all with a spiritual emphasis!

I started thinking of my spiritual father and came to the realization that I did not have a spiritual father.  I found it very interesting that my mother was a single parent mostly (my parents divorced when I was 7).  So after thinking about it for a very long time, I have come to the conclusion that my physical mother was also my spiritual mother and she was STILL a single parent.  Now don’t misunderstand me, I have had spiritual men who had a place in my life, and who imparted wisdom, or knowledge, or some other resource that I needed at the time, but none of them fit the role of a spiritual father.  I had an awesome Pastor years ago who was very instrumental and influential in my spiritual walk.  He was Pastor George Samuel, of Faith Christian Center, in Staten Island, New York.  Pastor Samuel exposed us to awesome people of faith and awesome training.  We received training and spiritual instruction from people like Casey Treat, David Demola, Marilyn Hickey, and other exceptional men and women of faith.  Pastor Samuel gave us training that was unmatched.  He was the closest thing to a spiritual father, but more like a spiritual uncle!
We eventually moved to a new state, but I took all that I had learned with me!  My mother, who took it a step further and nurtured my spiritual yearning, corroborated everything that he gave me.  As I got older, I learned more, I studied more; I gained more knowledge and wisdom in the ways of the Lord.
I have been a member of other churches since FCC, but none of them matched the training I received early in my spiritual life.  The churches since then have complimented my learning, and multiplied it but no one has ever filled the role of a spiritual father.
Even though I have never had a spiritual father, I do not feel that I have lacked in that area.  I never felt like a spiritual orphan, or like I was missing out on something because GOD WAS ALWAYS THERE! I think I have come to the realization of what the verse in Psalm 68:5 means or what it means for me.  God has provided the nurturing and guidance that I needed.  He has become my spiritual Father.  So when that verse says that God is a Father to the Fatherless I feel that HE has me covered spiritually!  Whatever I lacked HE provided! HE is truly the Father to the Fatherless!

Happy Father’s Day!

The Diva’s Big Day, PROM!

Yes, I am still playing catch-up!!  So this is the post about the Diva and her big day…yes the PROM!!!!
It started out okay, nice and easy. We had to buy a dress and we had to get some shoes…That was in April! By the time mid-May rolled around I realized that my sweet, beautiful, some time attitude-y, youngest baby was in fact a full fledged PROMZILLA!!!  I know Promzilla is not a real word, but trust me when I tell you IT HAS REAL MEANING!! I am scared to imagine what her wedding day will be like…….
O…M…G…! The dresses were not right, they did not have enough pop or WOW factor. Of course we had to find a dress shop a million miles from us to make sure that NO ONE ELSE had the same dress! Once we did find a dress, it had to be altered because my baby is vertically challenged but very well endowed (which also lead to issues finding under-dress foundation). That dress was altered THREE TIMES. Well hen it had to be cleaned of course. The shoes had to be mega-FIERCE!  And they had to be shoes that no one else had, we went to a Mexican mall (yea, I know what you are thinking, I also did not know there were Mexican malls, but we found one!).  This Mexican mall had about 20 shoe stores, PRAISE GOD she found what she wanted in store number three! Can I just say that the Mexican shoe game is tight!! So, anyway, There had to be an after prom outfit. Lord, help him but the boyfriend did not get the color suit she wanted, there was a make-up tryout day and we had to try three different types of eye.  Manicure, pedicure, hair, a fight over weave versus no weave, prom jewelry… and the list goes on and on and on!
In the end of it all the DIVA was BEAUTIFUL!  She was happy with the outcome. The boyfriend’s clothes turned out to be a perfect match, and all was well with the world!!!!!  I have a couple hundred pictures but I will only post a few….heeheehee!

The FIRST fitting

Be Encouraged My Beloved!

Be encouraged!! whatever you are fighting, whatever you are toiling with, whatever you are struggling with, they will not last always.  It may seem like you are in this alone but God said He would NEVER LEAVE you nor FORSAKE you!  Be encouraged beloved of God because He, the maker of heaven and earth will surely honor His word.

He said He has plans to bless and prosper you – Jeremiah 29:11
He said if you call He would heal and deliver you from your trouble – Psalm 34:17
He said He would heal your broken heart – Psalm 147:3
He said cast all your cares upon Him – 1 Peter 5:7
He said He is your strength – Habakkuk 3:19
He said we will be persecuted but not forsaken – 2 Corinthians 4:9
He said He wants your soul to prosper – 3 John 2
He said He would restore your health and heal you – Jeremiah 30:17
He said He would supply all your needs – Philippians 4:19
He said He is with us always – Matthew 28:20
He said you would have everlasting life – John 6:47
He said He would strengthen and uphold you – Isaiah 41:10

The one who made the very heavens and earth loves you so much that He left you a love letter full of promises!!  He is not a man so He will not lie.  So if He said it, than you can believe it!
So be encouraged beloved,
It is not over yet!

The Virtuous Woman

Ever notice that there are NUMEROUS times in the bible where it mentions God having to step in and be a Father to the Fatherless but it never mentions the Motherless…..

But then the bible also has almost an entire chapter on the Virtuous Woman…

The Virtuous Wife (Proverbs 31:10-31)

10 Who[b] can find a virtuous[c] wife?
For her worth is far above rubies.
11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her;
So he will have no lack of gain.
12 She does him good and not evil
All the days of her life.
13 She seeks wool and flax,
And willingly works with her hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
She brings her food from afar.
15 She also rises while it is yet night,
And provides food for her household,
And a portion for her maidservants.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
From her profits she plants a vineyard.
17 She girds herself with strength,
And strengthens her arms.
18 She perceives that her merchandise is good,
And her lamp does not go out by night.
19 She stretches out her hands to the distaff,
And her hand holds the spindle.
20 She extends her hand to the poor,
Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of snow for her household,
For all her household is clothed with scarlet.
22 She makes tapestry for herself;
Her clothing is fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is known in the gates,
When he sits among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
And supplies sashes for the merchants.
25 Strength and honor are her clothing;
She shall rejoice in time to come.
26 She opens her mouth with wisdom,
And on her tongue is the law of kindness.
27 She watches over the ways of her household,
And does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children rise up and call her blessed;
Her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many daughters have done well,
But you excel them all.”
30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing,
But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands,
And let her own works praise her in the gates.

Be Blessed!

P.S. – No I am not in any way male bashing or downgrading the male importance! I was reading something and this dropped into my Spirit!

Resolutions, NO! Plans, YES! ~REPOST~

~This is a repost~
We are one third of the way through the year, have you accomplished anything, worked on anything, moved toward anything???

The New Year is upon us.  Yes we are two days away from welcoming in a New Year.  2012 promises to be a year of new beginnings, of awakening, of empowerment, of no more business as usual.  2012 will be a year of doing things differently!  A year of NOT waiting for things to happen but of MAKING things happen!  And this is all just in my own life!

See, I am not big on resolutions because frankly once you make them you are pretty much destined to break them.  If you are making major changes in your life (or minor changes) why would you wait until the beginning of a New Year to put your plans into action??  It is totally unrealistic and absolutely asinine to think that you can only make changes to your life one time a year and that would be on January first!  Suppose mid-July you decide to return to school, or start a business, or learn a foreign language?  Do you have to wait until January first to do it??  NO!  So then why the big issue of writing some New Years resolutions??
What I will tell you is that as you sit and think about what you have done, and have accomplished, now may be a good time think about what you would like to do and would like to accomplish next.  As you are thinking about your next moves and goals you may want to start planning your route of attack.  Plan what you are going to do and how you are going to do it.  Because sitting and dreaming and doing nothing is a waste of time, energy, and brain power!  If you have dreamed the same dream for years or say to yourself, “I have wanted to do that all my life” and you are still not doing it, than you need to RE-EVALUATE your priorities, GET OFF your butt and MAKE IT HAPPEN!
“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results” -Albert Einstein
Write your plan, make it plain, and then PUT IT INTO ACTION.  But please think it through first, write it down.  An effective plan goes a long way.  The bible says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish; but he who keeps the law — blessed is he” (Proverbs 29:18, Amplified).  So get your vision (PLAN), write it down, and then put it into action (DO IT!).  DO NOT waste another year, just sitting around and THINKING about what you are going to do ONE DAY!  Make THIS your BREAK THROUGH year!  Break through barriers, Break through problems, Break through finances, Break through doubt, Break through opposition, Break through stagnation!  JUST DO IT!
“Be great in act, as you have been in thought. – William Shakespeare.  So do not just talk about it or think about BE ABOUT IT!  Or as my Mother and Grand-Mother used to say PISS OR GET OFF THE POT!
As we end 2011, do not meditate on the what ifs, what could haves, or what should haves, FOCUS on the WHAT’S NEXT!
And as 2012 begins, so should you!

I See You, I Hear You, I Love You

When you look at me what do you see? When you look at your neighbor what do you see? Have you ever bothered to really consider the people around you? When you run into someone on the street and you say, “Hey! How are you?” do you actually really care? More often than not you do not want to hear about someones bad back, or their struggles with their landlord, or how they are having problems on the job. All you really want to hear is the perfunctory reply of, “I’m fine and you?”  They probably want to hear the same from you.
If all we are receiving from our neighbors, friends, and even family is the customary, perfunctory answers and replies, then how are we effectively communicating with one another? If we are not effectively communicating with one another than how can we show LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER as the bible tells us to do? 1 Peter 4:8 tells us “And above all things have fervent love for one anotherfor “love will cover a multitude of sins”. As a matter of fact, loving one another is so important to God that it is mentioned numerous times in the bible in 1 John, 1 Peter, Romans, Galatians, and in 1 Thessalonians.
I do not believe that God wants us to just look AT someone, look AROUND someone, or talk AT someone. I believe God wants us to actually SEE ONE ANOTHER, LISTEN TO ONE ANOTHER, and genuinely LOVE ONE ANOTHER. We must learn to look at someone and SEE them the way GOD SEES THEM. So lets start working on that, okay?

Soooooo, how are YOU today?
