Today’s lesson is about John Lee Love.
Mr John Lee Love is the African American who patented the pencil sharpener. This was and still is an important invention evidenced by the millions of pencil sharpeners found in homes, offices, and schools all across the United States.
According to Blackinventor.com,
On November 23, 1897, Love patented the pencil sharpener which called for a user to turn a crank and rotor off thin slices of wood from the pencil until a point was formed.
