"A Day Of Blogging For Justice" – Tasers…

A Day of Blogging for Justice – Blogging Against Extra-Judicial Electrocution (Tasers)”

I recently wrote a blog post titled, “Are Tasers Instruments Of Racism?” This is clearly not a popular subject, but it does raise very legitimate questions. I asked the question because it would seem that African Americans are being unjustly targeted and tasered. I personally do not know if it is just African Americans that are being unjustly targeted but I do know that there is something very wrong with a justice system that would allow the unjust abuse of another human being and call it law enforcement. The use of tasers has only taken the place of the use of dogs and firehoses… I am concerned about the constant, brutal, and seemingly unbridalled use of tasers. There needs to be more indepth training on the use of tasers. There needs to be a closer look taken at tasers and the people who use them. There needs to be a deeper look into the storeis, incidents and allegations of the abuse of taser usage. So I am now joining with a group of bloggers who all have very real concerns and questions about the use of tasers. These are just a couple of stories about taser use that concern me…

  1. A recent story of a now dead 21 year old African American male in Louisiana who was tasered NINE times over the course of 30 minutes, went into cardiac arrest and died while handcuffed in police custody raises definite questions. The coroner has listed the death as a HOMICIDE on the death certificate. The officer responsible was on a paid suspension but has since been terminated from the force. But this termination does not bring back life…
  2. A deaf man was tasered in his bathroom after police busted into his apartment following a bogus call…
  3. A 66 year old pastor was tasered and beat by hospital guards and then the hospital presses charges against him…
  4. A blind woman tasered when police come to her home looking for her son. She is being charged with assault on an officer and with resisting arrest…
  5. A polish immigrant is tasered to death by customs officer in Vancouver airport…
  6. A pregnant woman tasered when she goes to the police for help and was clearly in need of mental assistance…
  7. And the disturbing story of a SIX YEAR OLD BOY who was tasered by police in his elementary school…

The stories go on and on. We want to know what is going to be done about this epidemic? When will it stop? Why are there no politicians involved in this situation? Clearly the use of tasers is out of control, and something must be done.

The U.N. says that tasers are a form of torture… So why are police officers still inflicting this “torture” on people? And why is nothing being done to stop them??

What do you think???

Are Tasers Instruments Of Racism??

I don’t usually blog about race relations. There are so many political blogs, racial blogs, and such that you run the risk of just repeating what someone else is already blogging about and that would be boring.

Today however I did want to alert you to a seemingly growing problem in our society…

The number of African-American that are being tasered and also dying from that action is a hot topic with a lot of blogs but seems to mean nothing to mainstream media. Now understand, I walk on the right side of the law and I do understand that at times it is necessary to use a measure of force or other means of enforcing law such as tasing someone. But there appears to be an alarming trend of tasing going on and I must ask if this is fair and equal treatment.

When I googled tasered people the results were as follows:

Tasered People – 1,990,000

Tasered Black People – 270,000

Now, while the number of tasered black people is not even half of the total number of tasered people above, the number is still alarmingly high. And when you couple the number of tasered black people with the circumstances of the taser incidents it seems a like a very racially charged, barbaric act that is being perpetrated on black people. We all know that Racism is alive and well in America, and sadly I believe that some of these taser incidents prove it. I do not believe that criminals should get sympathy, but I do believe in being innocent until proven guilty. Why was this black man tased 9 times before he died??

I think that there needs to be some more extensive training on the use of tasing enforced. I beleive that tasing has gotten out of control.

What are your views on the use of tasers?

Do you think that black people are tasered more often than other races of people?

Do you think the use of tasing on black people is more than or equal to that of other races?
